After the thrashing of Leyland Foxes 4-0 last week, Blackpool new they were up for a much harder game this week as they took on Runcorn, who won 7-0 the week before. The first 20 minutes were all Runcorns, as they came out of the starting blocks like a rocket. Within 5 minutes they had taken the lead, with a well deserved finish following some sloppy defending from the Blackpool back line. Runcorn, still piling on the pressure could not capitalise on their lead and eventually, Blackpool started getting the better of the possession. Shortly before half time, a good move down the right from the eventual man of the match Liam Morrow, saw the ball crossed to Dave Morgan who neatly slipped the ball into Rob Pasqualinos path for a shot on goal. A good saved was forced from the keeper, but Andy Mortimer was on hand to took away the clearance. 1-1 at half time, but Blackpool taking heart from the fact that thay finished the half on top.
Runcorn were then chasing a lost cause. The only option open to them was to hit the long ball through the middle, but stalwart of the defence, Peter Latimer, held strong and made every ball his own. Shortly before the finish, Gareth Gettings almost made it four for Blackpool, the Runcorn keeper, very painfully saving with his collar bone. An excellent 3-1 win for Blackpool who, being newly promoted, are now two wins from two.
