Blackpool hosted St.Helens in a must win game for Blackpool to ensure that the promotion possibilities remained. The early part of the game was dominated by the visiting club who eventually took the lead from a short corner. With 20 minutes left of the first half, Blackpool lucky to be only one down, the tide started turning. More of the Blackpool attacks started finding the right players and the chances starting coming. The St.Helens keeper rescuing the away side on several occasions. Blackpool could not however capitalise on the increased pressure and went intop half time at 1-0 down.
Blackpool started the second half much brighter than they started the first. Within 5 minutes of the restart a short corner resulted in the equalising goal. Kieron Morrow pushed the ball out to the top of the ‘D’. The ball was swiftly returned to Morrow, who neatly flicked the ball over an advancing keeper, into the back of the net.
The second of Blackpools goal was excellently executed by Gareth Gettings. Gettings received a square ball at the left hand edge of the ‘D’, and with plenty time fired the ball into the left corner of the net. Blackpool were 2-1 up and looking likely to make it plenty more. Unfortunately, St.Helens first attack of the second half came soon afterwards. The away teams centre midfield playing the ball all the way into the ‘D’ and into the back of the net.
Blackpool initially started panicking, and passes went astray. Some good defending keeping the St.Helens attacks at bay. With 10 minutes left, the composure returned to the home side and the chances started coming once more. Dom Chadwick managed to poke in the Blackpool third goal after a bit of a goalmouth scramble. This timew, Blackpool kept the concentration and soon made in 4-2 as Dave Morgan finished off the move of the match, started by Kieron Morrow (man of the match) who took on several defenders before laying the ball into Morgans path.
A good win for Blackpool that consolidates their 2nd position in the league.
