Perfect pitch conditions on Blackpool’s water-based astro, after downpours the previous day but a drying wind on match day. The captain had a full Blackpool squad to pick from with a full 3 subs.
The defence looked solid in the first half but the attack could’t manage to score with Sale’s keeper making several great saves. 0-0 at half time and Captain Morrow drilled homw how important it would be to keep tight at the back and score first, with the prediction that whichever team conceded first would lose.
Stalemate continued in the second half. Tensions rose and Wright was warned with a green card for a reckless tackle with led to one of several short corners for Sale. Later Mitch Blakemore in goal was warned for questioning the umpire and not a minute later Wright was lucky to not to be sin-binned for dissent himself. Instead he was substituted for the sake of the team with Ash Blakemore coming on at left half. He made an immediate impression scoring the first goal minutes later. Blackpool’s second followed just afterwards courtesy of Abbott playing at right half, and Sale looked in disarray.
However Sale are a battling team and their tricky forwards managed to out-fox Blackpool’s defence in the last few minutes of the game. Despite further late pressure Blackpool held on for an important 2-1 win. Woodman was man of the match for both his solid defense at right back and attacking runs down the right flank.
