After a shaky start to the season last week Blackpool were hoping for a return to the fluid hockey of the two warm up games, unfortunately this was not to be. After a 2 hour road journey to Wales the captain found out that several key players were still drunk from the previous nights outing and all the kit was in Blackpool. The vice captain was immediately dispatched to a local retail outlet to purchase some white t-shirts. Even though Blackpool had over an hour to warm up and the local constabulary had shown up to provide protection it was a complete waste of a Saturday afternoon.
Blackpool’s right and left backs should not have bothered to get in the car or should have done the decent thing and gone home early at half time as they may as well have been using snooker cues for the effect they had on the opposition. Rhyl used their home advantage well by imposing their style of play from the off. Slick passing and useless Blackpool defence saw them 3-0 at half time. 5-1 at the final whistle brought an end to the dire Blackpool showing.
