Preston 2nds 5 v Blackpool 1st 4
A game at Kirkham Grammar School saw a Blackpool side at almost full strength fielding their starting 11. The squad of Blakemore, Gettings, Latimer, Wright, Morrow L, Woodman, Morrow K, Pasqualino, Abbott, Whitley, Morgan, Ashfield & Walker looked good on paper and Blackpool again started with their new formation. The backs were not really at the races from the whistle and kept getting caught in possession and within 15 minutes Blackpool were two down. Changes that were to be made in the midfield ended up being made in defence as Latimer came on for Wright who was really struggling to find his touch and the pace of the game.
Walker made way for Ashfield after 25 minutes and the midfield and defence were swapped about as Morgan desperately tried to plug the holes the Preston side kept making. To be fair this was a full strength Preston side who are well drilled and passed and moved the ball very well. Blackpool went into half time 3-1 down and Morgan was left with only 5 minutes to sort out everything that was going with Blackpool.
The second half saw a much better display with some fluid passing and much better marking. The 50/50 balls that were always going to Preston now started to come back to Blackpool. Preston did make MOM Blackmore make many fine saves and it was a miracle they did not convert many of their short corner chances. At the final whistle Preston were a goal to the good and were on the rack for the last five minutes as Blackpool kept pressing forward looking for an equalizer.
