Blackpool 2nds completed their first ever league game with a win away to local rivals Preston. It took Blackpool a good proportion of the first half to take the lead after they came close to scoring on a few occasions. The deadlock was broken when Ashley Blakemore scored from a defensive mix up in the Preston area. Some sloppy play & bad tackles let to a Preston free hit outside the Blackpool area from where a Preston midfielder slammed the ball into the bottom corner bringing the score to one a piece. The quick Preston response gave Blackpool the wake up call they needed as Dominic Chadwick & Mike Ashfield came close, a clever run from Chadwick into the Preston area led to Sam Goudie placing the ball into the bottom left hand corner for the away side to take the lead.
The 2nd half started as Blackpool performed equally well and were very unlucky to score further goals early on. Later on in the second period some good link up play from the Blackpool midfield led to full debutant Chris Hocking diving in at the back post to slot the ball past the on rushing Preston goalkeeper into the net. Soon after Blackpool were awarded a Penalty stroke as Umpire Wright blew for a deliberate infringement on Mike Ashfield inside the area, Preston players surrounded both umpires as Umpire Belshaw agreed there was an infringement, Mike Ashfield stepped up and converted the penalty into the bottom left hand corner & shortly after the game finished as Blackpool climbed to a 2nd place league spot.
