Blackpool started the game against Prescot relaxed and very confident after a very good performance the day before against North Division 2 side Lytham St Anne’s 1st XI and this paid off as they took the lead with deflected strike by Steve Whitley. Soon after Rob Abbott slotted home Blackpool’s second goal from a fantastic cross from Danny Woodman, Prescot created very little chances as Blackpool took full control over the match.
Blackpool came out from the half time break equally as strong as wave after wave of attacks on the Prescot goal resulted on chances going begging. Right in the middle of the second half Blackpool were awarded a short corner and as a result Gareth Gettings stepped up, dummied a shot then took the ball round two defenders to flick the ball in the top right hand corner. Prescot were awarded a short corner to which they converted but this was too little too late as the final whistle went and Blackpool 1st XI went on to progress to the Quarter-Finals of the Lancashire Trophy.
