With a warm sunny day at Stanley Park, Blackpool started well with Richard Blacow slotting the ball in the goal with less than a minute gone from a well worked set piece. Steve Whitley added two more soon after as Blackpool cruised to a commanding lead. Blackburn struggled to get the ball past the halfway line as wave after wave of Blackpool attacks kept the visitors under further pressure, the home side won a penalty corner to which Richard Blacow smashed the ball home with a solid reverse stick strike.
Blackpool came out from the half time break relaxed as they soon took more control of the game this soon paid off as Dave Morgan converted a close range effort from a well worked pass from Rob Abbott. Blackburn started to create chances and won a couple of penalty corners to which Blackpool defended well, but minutes later Dave Morgan responded with a superb strike putting the ball in the bottom left hand corner & Mike Ashfield completed the rout by taking the ball right round the goalkeeper and slotting the ball into an empty net after Steve Whitley’s shot was blocked by a defender’s leg. Blackburn grabbed a consolation goal right at the end but this was still an excellent performance from a strong Blackpool side, with midfielder Andy Mortimer gaining man of the match.
