The 2nd XI started the game very poorly as in the first ten minutes Ormskirk took the lead due to a defensive error, Ormskirk were now in the driving seat as they pressed forward and nearly found a second goal soon after which was prevented by some good goalkeeping by Graham Kilshaw. Blackpool had one real chance in the first half and this was converted by Dominic Chadwick from a Paul Sam Goudie ball into the area, but this did not relieve any pressure as Ormskirk scored again from a Penalty corner shortly before the interval
Blackpool came out from the break a different side as things started to take shape, attacks into the Ormskirk area were becoming more and more frequent but unfortunately chances from Edmondson, Chadwick and Lynch went begging. With fifteen minutes to go Blackpool were given a lifeline when a mix up in the Ormskirk defence led to a free hit outside the area, Dominic Chadwick played the ball to Warren Edmondson who turned and shot the ball high into the net. A few minutes later Blackpool were awarded a controversial penalty corner as Umpire Appleton spotted an infringement in the circle and Umpire Wright saw his signal and awarded the penalty corner to which many of the away team protested. From the penalty corner Edmondson duly converted the ball into the bottom right hand corner to give the home side a lead. Ormskirk continued to stay strong as they had one last attack with less than a minute to go the ball fell to opposition striker Roy Donnan who shot only for the ball to beat the goalkeeper and be cleared off the line by Captain Dave Rayner, Blackpool held on to retain their pre-season unbeaten run.
