Sale won their first points of the season, and their first win in Blackpool for 5 years, the 2 clubs being regular opponents. Blackpool may feel they are a slightly better quality but frankly are not playing with the passion and determination needed in this division. In the end Sale wanted the points more and got the result they desperately need to kick start their season.
The two goals both came in the 1st half from short corners, although neither were unstoppable. Blackpool had their chances but simply can’t score at the moment.
The 2nd half was more of the same, and at times there was some great passing hockey from Blackpool. There was even a one on one chance that went wide. It was just not meant to be.
Final result was a 2-0 home defeat. With the 6-1 win over South Cheshire now a distant memory, and having played all the 5 lowest placed teams in the division, the next 6 weeks are going to be a real test of character for the team. Maybe they need inspiration from the 2nd team who won 17-0 on the same day, or maybe a few players need to swap?
Man of the Match was Steve Whitley for his fine left midfield play.
