Blackpool started the game against Wigan full of confidence as they took the lead with a Warren Edmondson strike early in the first half despite the Wigan defence pulling off some brave tackles but this was not to stop a second goal from Martin Hayes coming minutes later. From here on in Blackpool struggled to find the target as great passing in the midfield led to the two forwards failing to convert many chances
Blackpool came out from the half time break inspired from the captain’s team talk as they soon took control of the game & this soon paid off as Dave Morgan converted a close range effort from an accurate cross from Richard Blacow. And Blackpool were to have some more good luck as Blacow slotted in a reverse stick shot in the bottom left hand corner. Blacow went on to score two more goals to complete his hatrick, then Blackpool added a last goal through a well worked short corner routine to complete Wigan’s demise. Despite this being Blackpool’s first pre-season friendly of the season an excellent start to a season that will hopefully produce some silverware for the tangerines, Blackpool Hockey Club would like to thank sponsors Walkabout, Firth Associates of Lytham, Morrow Brothers and Cable & Wireless for their valued sponsorship for the 2006/07 season.
