Blackpool started the game against Manchester Trinity relaxed and very confident after a decent performance the day before against Brooklands and this paid off as they took the lead early on with a strike by Mike Ashfield from a fantastic cross from Steve Whitley, Manchester Trinity created lots of chances as this Quarter-Final clash became very tight shortly before the half time break
Blackpool came out from the half time break equally as strong as wave after wave of attacks on the Trinity goal resulted on chances going begging. Right in the middle of the second half Blackpool were awarded a short corner but a Steve Whitley strike was cleared off the line and shortly after Whitley had another chance scrambled off the line to keep the score 1-0. This started to inspire the away side as the began to viciously attack winning five short corners in that last period of the second half only committed defending from Rob Abbott and Pete Latimer kept the visitors from scoring and soon after the final whistle went and Blackpool 1st XI went on to progress to the Semi-Finals of the Lancashire Trophy, man of the match was Mike Ashfield.
