Blackpool travelled to Wilmslow with the weight of the world on their shoulders. The team is not enjoying its hockey at the moment and are finding it tough to get going this season.
That said, you can’t knock Blackpool’s work rate or their commitment to each other. For well over 70 minutes the Backpool players battled for every ball, causing Wilmslow numerous problems and jitters. The match was an end to end affair with Blackpool holding their own in all areas of the pitch.
However, Wilmslow finally got a break when a great save from Mitchell hit Pasqualino on the line and a Penalty Flick was awarded. The Wilmslow player finished with aplomb to put them 1 – nil up at half time.
The half time talk asked for more of the same and the player duly responded, just looking for that opportunity to score the vital equaliser. Wilmslow continued to batter at the hatches until pressure finally told and a small error at the back was punished. This seemed to deflate Blackpool and 3 further goals were quickly scored.
The scoreline makes it look like Blackpool played poorly when in fact nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Wilmslow players said after the match that Blackpool were the best team they had played so far this season. So the message is, beware of Blackpool 1st because the corner is about to be turned!
