Blackpool played Cheetham Hill in a rearranged Sunday fixture hoping to make amends for the unexpected defeat to Ormskirk the day before.
Blackpool started well and went on to dominate the 1st half. Chances were created from the outset with good attacking play from Blakemore, Goudie, Slater and Atherton. Goudie scored the first from a well worked short corner after just 5 minutes. Blakemore scored the second minutes later after a fine run and a one-two with Hayes. The Blackpool defence of Rainbow, Bancroft, Lester, Walker & Rowe were hardly ever in trouble and the return of Walker provided extra stability and ability to counter-attack. Hayes scored the third just before half-time after a pass from striking partner Robertson.
Cheetham Hill improved in the 2nd half and forced saves from Rainbow although they never looked like seriously threatening. Midway through the half there was a disgraceful incident where there was almost a mass brawl amongst some of the Blackpool players and spectators. After several minutes tempers were calmed, forced substitutions made and there will be a club inquiry to ensure that this never happens again. Heys, Wright, Young and Latimer all came on during the half, showing the strength in depth of this team’s squad. The easy win was sealed by a trademark strike from Blakemore at a short corner. He was later deemed to be Man of the Match.
