An emphatic win saw Blackpool move to within 3 points of the top of the league on an overcast Saturday at Stanley Park.
Blackpool obviously turned up today determined to make up for the previous loss at Lytham. Three quick goals in sucession saw an unanswered 3-0 lead within the first ten minutes of play.
A brief nap by the Blackpool defence, and several short corners to Lytham saw two well taken goals bring the score to 3-2 at half time, despite keeper Nick Rainbow having his strongest game yet since joining the club, showing great promise for the future.
After a decidely upbeat team-talk, Blackpool came out with the hunger they have displayed so often this season, and the following half left Lytham shell-shocked and in awe. With experienced defender Peter Latimer man-marking Lytham’s danger man Tom Atkinson out of the game, Blackpool scored a further seven goals, with some excellent attacking play, and several Lytham chances being snuffed out by strong defending.
A final consolation goal scored at the death by Lytham will have done little to take the sting out of this 10 – 3 win, and with MoM once again being Ashley Blakemore, surely Blackpool can keep the momentum going to secure the position needed for promotion at the end of the season.
