Blackpool pressed on with their promotion campaign with an excellent start as the home side took the lead after just 3 minutes from a strike from Alex Rowe.
Blackpool doubled their lead only a couple of minutes later as Paul Atherton slipped in behind the West Derby defence to slot the ball past the goalkeeper. All the way through this half Blackpool dominated the play as the visitors could not get the ball past the half way line and this pressure paid off as the home side converted their third goal from the first penalty corner of the game as Atherton deflected a direct strike from Mitch Blakemore. Soon after Atherton completed his hat-trick from a simple tap in from two yards out after a superb ball from Martin Hayes. West Derby grabbed a goal back from a penalty corner shortly before the interval.
Blackpool came out in the second half a relaxed side as the tangerines maintained plenty of energy to grab more goals as Ryan Lynch and Declan O’Hara came on in the second half and both scored from set plays to bring Blackpool’s tally to six and maintaining their slim promotion hopes after 2nd placed Carlisle beat leaders Urmston.
Blackpool have a tough match against rivals Leigh at home next Saturday.
