A very good start to the first game for newly formed Blackpool 3rd XI as a twelve strong squad arrived at Rossall ready for a good friendly game. Blackpool got off to a shaky start as wave after wave of Lytham attacks came forward but were soon cancelled out as Blackpool began to find their feet. Blackpool took the lead from some good link up play in the midfield from Callum Clowes and Alex Diver to set up Ben Mortimer for his first goal for a senior side as from ten meters out he crashed the ball into the roof of the Lytham goal. A few minutes later Chris Hocking slammed in Blackpool’s second goal from a quick counter attack and before the interval James Smith slotted in a third.
Blackpool continued to play well with good passing and movement from Oliver Smith, Rob Cain and Jason Hollis built up momentum in the midfield. Later in the second half Lytham grabbed two goals back but never really contested Blackpool’s lead as the home side held on for a well earned victory.
