2nd placed Leigh, travelled to table topping Blackpool, in a game that stood out on the divisions fixture card.
It was the visitors who settled first, creating a number of chances before the team from Manchester taking the lead, capitalizing on some sloppy Blackpool defending. Pools, who were struggling to create chances, managed to equalise just before the break, with MARTIN HAYES’ deflected strike finding the top corner.
As the game moved into the second half, it was Leigh once again, who took the lead after some loose marking. With 20 to go Pool started to play some of there best hockey, creating a number of chances, however unable to convert. The Leigh defence then gave away a Penalty Corner, to which Blackpool executed to perfection. Paul Atherton and Andy Mortimer linked up well to enable Blackpool’s leading scorer ALEX DIVER to fire the ball into the bottom left corner.
Minutes later, Pool piled the pressure onto a faltering Leigh Defence forcing them into making mistakes. From a free hit outside the D, Strikers Alex Diver and MARTIN HAYES combined to see Hayes deflecting the ball over the stranded Leigh Keeper.
Tempers flared after this goal, with Leigh confronting the umpire and an incident evolved, resulting in 4 players leaving the field, one receiving a rare Red Card for decent. Pool hung on despite late heavy pressure to take all 3 Points.
