Blackpool travelled to Leigh hoping to bounce back after a poor defeat to Preston, and although losing players in the week due to Man-Flu, Blackpool set off with every intention of taking 3 points.
The Game started off well, with Blackpool playing decent Hockey against the physical style of Leigh. Although Pool started the brighter it was Leigh, with their Wimbledon 91 style of hockey, that allowed them to break the deadlock after 10 minuites.
Pool replied almost immediatly, with Alex Diver striking a Penalty Corner into the Goal. Pool took the lead five minuites later, with good work in the middle of the park from Jack Jones, feeding Alex Diver who squared for Ryan Lynch to flick the ball past the keeper.
At Half time, Pool found themselves 2 goals to one up, and playing good hockey. After the break a different set of teams took to the field. Leigh who had tried to out-muscle Blackpool started to play some very good hockey, and Pool well…. didnt.
Numerous lapses in concentration from the defence and midfield allowed Leigh to capitalise with the Master Puppeteer John Brunt pulling the strings. Leigh won the second half 4-0 taking the score to 5-2 and they looked good for it.
Pool apart from 5 minuites toward the end didnt look like they had ever played together before, and If Blackpool Second Eleven have any visions of promotion for this season, they need to start playing for 70 minuites not just 35, and rather than letting a bad decision or a goal against affect performances.
Some say that the Christmas period is a period for reflection, Blackpool’s players seriously need to look at themselves. For the most talented squad in the division, Needless excuses/mistakes are costing them the promotion that they were favourites for 2 weeks ago.
