Goals from Blackpool forwards Alex Diver and Martin Hayes gave Blackpool a deserved 3-0 victory over a resilliant Wigan side.
Following good performances the previous week, Captain Bancroft promoted Ben Mortimer and Alex Rowe into the starting XI for the divisions bottom team’s visit to Stanley Park.
To spectators the table must have looked up-side down during the first period as it was Wigan who played the better hockey in the opening phases, as Blackpool yet again took 20 minuites to start playing. Blackpool created a number of chances towards the end of the first half, with the vetran Andrew Mortimer being allowed more freedom to attack.
With the score 0-0 at half time, Blackpool started the second half with much more purpose and within ten minuites Blackpool had taken the lead following a hardly hit penalty corner from Alex Diver. Blackpool extended their lead within 5 minuites with a carbon copy of their first goal, which saw Alex Diver take his tally to 17 for the season.
Declan O’Hara created blackpool’s third, after beating two wigan defenders he saw his goal bound shot put over the line from 2 inches out by Martin Hayes.
Blackpool thought they had made it 4-0 as Alex Diver scored from the penalty spot, however Umpire Wright claimed that the flick needed to be re-taken and Diver saw his second attempt fly over the bar.
