After two defeats, Blackpool were desperate for at win at home against one of last year’s poorer teams in Division 4, Triton.
Blackpool dominated the match from the start although many chances were squandered early on, with a David Wright miss in front of an open goal very memorable. Triton had their moments in counter-attacking and in fact were awarded the first penalty corner but Blackpool’s defence held firm.
Blackpool eventually took the lead half-way through the first half after executing a well practised penalty corner routine with Dave Morgan producing the final strike. Steve Whitley increased the lead when getting the finest of touches at the near post from a cross from Rob Abbott after a superb run down the right wing by James Slater.
Steve Whitley scored a second in the second half and this made the win certain. Blackpool piled on pressure and even defender Dec O’Hara was making insightful runs right through the Triton midfield, but alas no more goals were scored.
This first win of the season lifts Blackpool off the bottom of the division and with it being just as competitive as last year, there are only three points separating all 12 teams from 1st to last.
