Blackpool travelled to South Cheshire with six of their 1st team squad missing so Simon Thomas and Matthew Atherton were handed their 1st team debuts. Blackpool started brightly looking to pass the ball around the pitch but were quickly pegged behind when a shot on goal hit a Blackpool players foot and a penatly flick was awarded which South Cheshire converted to take a 1-0 lead. Blackpool didn’t let their heads drop and got themselves back into the game with a well worked move down the right hand side where a ball was slipped to Steve Whitley who cooly finished to get Blackpool level. Blackpool took the lead from a well worked penalty corner where Steve Whitley found himself all on his own to slip the ball in the net for his second goal of the game. Blackpool could have found themselves 3-1 up but a chance was saved on the line by South Cheshire defender who then managed to score again before half time. Blackpool came out in the second half still giving hundred pecent and looking to get back into the lead. Pressing all over the pitch allowed the Blackpool players to keep the ball in the South Cheshire half and after much persistence a scrambe in South Cheshire area the ball fell kindly to Simon Thomas who smashed Blackpool into the lead and gained a goal on his debut. South Cheshire then tried to put pressure on Blackpool winnng a few penalty corners which produced good saves from Greame Kilshaw. Sam Goudie got the fourth goal in someone bizarre fashion with his cross to the back post somehow ending up in the goal. Blackpool saw their lead out to the final whistle and gained their first points away from home this season. A great performance from the whole team!
