Blackpool 2XI started the first game of the season well, gaining most of the possession in the first 15 minutes away to Bury GS Old Boys. This pressure eventually paid off when Blackpool striker Chris Hocking cleverly turned the Bury defence inside out finishing with a superb low shot to the corner of the goal. Unfortunately Bury replied quickly with two soft goals in quick concession. Shortly after, Simon Thomas slotted home an excellent passing move set up by Chris Hocking, who was still creating all sorts of problems for the Bury defence making the score 2-2 at half time. Blackpool continued to pile on the pressure in the second half with numerous short corners and it was only a matter of time before captain Simon Allen found the back of the net. 3-2 with 15 minutes remaining Bury had Blackpool on the back foot several times with Belshaw, Taylor and the Atherton brothers standing firm to deny a third Bury goal. Bury eventual managed to breakdown the Blackpool defence with a solo effort from Bury star striker, Benard to finish the game 3-3. All in all a promising start to the season from a rejuvenated Blackpool 2XI.
