Blackpool came up against GSK South Lakes to try and build on their 1 point this season, after a spirited 3-3 draw against stats magicians Bury. After a good start by both teams South Lakes took the lead as Blackpool poorly defended an attack, however South Lakes take the goal well.
Blackpool however don’t let this get them down and push on and equalise quickly through an outstanding run and finish from Simon Thomas. Blackpool then get the momentum to go for more and take advantage from a short corner and Captain Simon Allen makes it 2-1. Blackpool take the game to South Lakes and then score 3 more through a sublime finish from Jay Currey, in form Chris Hocking and man of the match Simon Thomas.
Blackpool thought the game was in the bag and failed to capitalise on more chances, but with the Blackpool defence of Atherton, B. Mortimer, Allen and Lester holding strong it looked like Kilshaw would not be beaten again.
After some rugged defending from the resulting short corner, mainly from Lester, South Lakes pulled one back. South lakes the carried on the pressure and capitalised on Blackpool only having ten men and grabbed a third, making the tie 5-3 and the game looked to be heading for an exciting ending, however lady luck smiled on the men in tangerine and time was up.
5-3 to a spirited Blackpool side who gave a solid performance and the first victory of the season was found for the newly promoted side.
