Both teams knew this was going to be a tough one. The game started quickly and Bury reacted the quickest with a neat quick fire goal putting Blackpool on the back foot early. As the half progressed Blackpool started to find their shape and came at Bury forcefully but could not find the net because of some rugged defending from Bury. Blackpool had many chances from short corners but failed to put them away and if not for a fantastic save by the Bury keeper they would have been equal before the break. However, the game was marred by tempers flaring up from both sides and possibly some overreacting to initiate it, which saw both teams lose a player through a yellow card.
The second half was similar to the first, Bury started well with a reverse shot going in leaving Blackpool two goals down. However, Blackpool showed character to carry on playing their game and Nathan Woodman was controversially disallowed a goal from a short corner. Blackpool piled it on Bury and were nearly caught out if not for a sensational save by Graeme Kilshaw it could have been worse for Blackpool. Finally Blackpool broke the strong Bury defence and David Wright grabbed his 3rd of the season. Blackpool pressed several more times and were unfortunate but that was all for Blackpool and the game finished 2-1.
Blackpool now need to knuckle down and win the rest of their games to keep the pressure on the top.
