It’s strange times when a large well established club like Urmston with 5 teams has to shed 2 teams and is now even struggling to get 3 teams out. This means they’re now suffering big defeats in both their 2nd and 3rd teams, although strangely their 1st team is as strong as ever. But to their immense credit they are fulfilling their fixtures and continued playing in good spirit all match despite the goals they conceded.
Although Blackpool fancied their chances from the off, it actually took nearly ten minutes for the first goal to go in. But after that the floodgates opened and Blackpool were rampant going 10 up at half time.
There was more of the same in the second half with 7 more goals although Urmston did have a 5 minute spell which caused Blackpool some problems, and through defensive errors they conceded a solitary short corner, but captain Nick Rainbow made the important save to keep his first clean sheet of the season.
Dave Morgan scored an impressive 8, albeit two flicked on (or stolen?) from Kieran Harris, who only managed one himself, although it was a mighty fine drag flick. Ian Swaine scored 4, Steve Whitley 3 and Mike Thom scored just the one and was disappointed not to also score a hat-trick.
I can’t remember the exact details of the goals, so apologies to the scorers, although I’ve had the following descriptions sent to me:
Ian Swaine: Dave assisted one of mine from a short corner, one was a dribble from outside the d resulting in a shot from top d to bottom left corner. Can’t remember the other 2!
Dave Morgan: 3 of mine came from Kieran assists, 2 deflected from his shots, 3rd was a strange kind of one two which resulted in me putting it top right corner. Got 2 assists from Swaine, first he slid ball between 2 defenders and I leathered it into the net, 2nd I deflected in at the back post from his cross. Got 1 assist from Whitley which I reverse flicked through keepers legs (that was last goal). Short corner goal was assisted by Woodman (1st goal). Someone put a ball into D and I deflected it through keepers legs (2nd goal).
