Sunday proved a much better day for Blackpool Men’s 1s as they ran out 3-1 winners over Southport, with Ian Swaine claiming a hatrick. His first came after some good work from Chris Hocking to round the goalkeeper, but the shot that followed was blocked on the line. Swaine was on hand to fire home from close range to give Blackpool the early lead. The first half remained scratchy with both sides careless in possession. However, Nick Rainbow’s men quickly showed what they were capable of in the opening minute of the second half with a well worked team goal, again finished off by Swaine.
Blackpool conceded against the run of play from a penalty corner, and began to get nervous as multiple chances were squandered. The 3 points, and a welcome win was sealed after a quickly taken free hit saw Morgan combine with Swaine, to create a two-on-one opportunity. Swaine’s excellent day was sealed when his attempted pass to Morgan was deflected by a Southport defender past the stranded goal keeper
