Mens 1’s
Blackpool’s last game of the season against Division 3 champions-elect Windermere was not surprisingly called off due to the return of winter weather, so the trip to Cumbria must wait for 2 weeks until after the Easter Festival and let’s hope the Blackpool players’ hangovers will have subsided by then.
Men 2’s
Blackpool 2’s finished off their season at home to Brooklands 5th team. After an up and down season, and smarting from their 12-1 defeat last week, they went out with a bang and an 8-0 victory. The whole team contributed, and in fact a hat-trick was scored from the same short corner routine with veteran Rob Pasqualino putting the ball away each time with the opposition not learning from their mistakes. Martin Hayes grabbed two goals to clinch the top scorer’s accolade for the team, Josh Payne scored one and debutant Ian Porter managed to score two. The only player with cause to regret was goalkeeper Graeme Kilshaw who saw so little action that he was close to frostbite by the end from the biting wind and icy snow showers!
Mens 3’s
Blackpool 3’s finished off their season at home to Division 8 champions Bury 2’s, who they’d lost to 13-0 in the very first game of the season. It shows much for the improvement that the team has made that they battled well to a fighting 6-3 defeat against a quality team. Bury scored three on the break, then Blackpool pulled one back through an own goal to make it 3-1 at half time. Bury started the better after the break and scored the next goal before Ben Mortimer, returning from university to help out his home club, scored to make it 4-2. The next goal was crucial and Blackpool had plenty of possession but Bury counter-attacked well and took a three goal lead midway through the second half. Nathan Woodman a consolation later on, before Bury secured the match 6-3.
