With the push delayed due to heavy Airshow traffic, Blackpool were forced to open the game with several of the players still making their way to the venue. Southport, a strong and well organised team, exerted early pressure and Max in goal displayed heroics to keep the score even. Through some good strong play in the middle from Luke, Blackpool broke and Kiefer was on the end of a great layoff to coolly slot home putting Blackpool into a surprise lead. Southport rallied and quickly scored a brace to go into the break 2-1 up.
With the full squad now assembled, Blackpool competed better in the second half, and strong defensive play from Toby, Ashlie and Joe Neath kept Southport to only adding one more. Despite being 3-1 down and fielding a mix of players from U12 and U14 squads, Blackpool never stopped chasing and were rewarded with a second from an outside shot from Luke which Fergus did well to deflect beyond the keeper.
Will and Matt chased everything and it was through this determination that Luke fed Dan on the wing who broke with speed and returned the pass inside to Luke to slot home an equaliser in the dying seconds.
Tremendous result given the difficulties. Special mention to the youngest of the squad, Spencer, Marcy and Cormac who all played their part
