The Barrington Sports North West Hockey League, Blackpool Hockey club and Bolton Hockey Club have agreed to the following statement being released.
We can confirm that a player from Blackpool Hockey Club, Sam Owen, was injured in a incident yesterday during a game between Blackpool HC and Bolton HC.
Sam was hit on the side of his head and came of the pitch.
He continued to watch the game and actually gave his team their half time talk. Just after half time, he spoke to Blackpool spectators saying he did not feel well and dizzy. A decision was made to take Sam to hospital.
The doctors in A & E, ordered x- Rays and after consultation decided to put Sam into an induced Coma for his safety. This is normal procedure.
Sam then had an operation last night and is now awake and talking. Things look good for him.
No one from any of the clubs or the league will make any further comments and we will work with the family of Sam Owen for any further news to be released.
Whilst making this statement, we would ask anyone using the logos of either, Blackpool HC, Bolton HC, Barrington Sports and The North West Hockey League to refrain from doing so and making totally false statements..
Blackpool Hockey Club wish Sam Owen a speedy recovery and offer their continued support to him and his family
