Blackpool started the game coming off the back of a home win last week. It was obvious from the start that the more experienced and practised Formby side knew how to control the game.
The home side were awarded a penalty flick within the first ten minutes of the match and Blackpool keeper Nutter was unable to stop the resulting goal. The early goal took immediate effect on Blackpool as they came under pressure for the remainder of the first half. Formby won short corners time and time again and finally struck gold on two more occasions. The first a shot from the top of the area leaving the away teams defence speechless and the second a well worked short corner leaving a man at the near post for an easy tap in.
Blackpool seemed to have regrouped in the second half and the introduction of Dave Wright and M Atherton in the middle gave some much needed structure to the Blackpool side. Passes from the two middle men found captain James Smith and forward Keiffer Earnshaw running into the area looking for a short corner to be awarded. The injection found Atherton at the top of the area who fluffed the first shot to allow him to pass the ball into the back of the Formby goal.
