After two shock defeats and promotion hopes shattered Blackpool 2’s were encouraged to enjoy themselves as they hosted Windermere 2’s, and they duly did by building a two goal advantage within the first ten minutes.
Nathan Woodman scored the first when he was slipped the ball from a short corner and his shot went through the keeper’s legs. Mike Sharp scored the second from a tight angle after being fed by Chris Hocking.
The first half continued with Blackpool working as a team with good interlinking passing and determined defending. They perhaps relaxed a little in the second half as Windermere pushed players forward in search of their first goal, and eventually were rewarded for their hard work.
Blackpool continued to press and make chances, and both Niall Bancroft and Steve White threw away decent opportunities. Chris Hocking showed off his dribbling skills and won another short corner by deliberately pushing the ball onto a defender’s foot. Andy Mortimer failed to stop the ball properly in the set piece and the back-up Hocking controlled it, passed it back to Mortimer, who used his years of experience to shoot past the keeper for his first goal in 4 years, and be awarded Man of the Match.
Blackpool ended 3-1 winners and consolidate their 4th place, and with the two teams above them both surprisingly losing, there’s now an outside chance of ending 2nd if they win all four remaining matches, including all three teams above them.
