Blackpool’s third team were defeated 4-0 at home to Kirkby Londsdale 2nd team.
In contrast to their usual slow starts, Blackpool started the first half on the front foot. Keiffer Walker-Earnshaw was unlucky not to open the scoring after beating the visiting keeper but his resulting shot lacked sufficient power and a Kirkby Londsdale defender was able to chase back and clear off the line. The crucial moment of an even first half came from a reverse stick shot from a Kirkby Londsdale striker which despite being mishit, somehow found its way into the corner of the Blackpool goal. 1-0 to the visitors at half time.
In a frustrating second half, Blackpool had the majority of possession and territory but their continued insistence of attacking straight through the middle of the opposition defence rather than using the width of the pitch resulted in attack after attack being easily snuffed out by an organised Kirkby Londsdale defence. Eventually the inevitable happened and Kirkby Londsdale doubled their lead from a counter attack, swiftly followed by a third goal scored after the umpires missed a foot from a Kirkby Londsdale striker.
Blackpool then missed a golden opportunity to get back into the game. Phil Weir was denied his first Blackpool goal when a short corner flick was stopped on the line by a Kirkby Londsdale foot. With regular penalty flick taker Keiffer Walker-Earnshaw on the bench, Chris Pickles took responsibility but unfortunately fired the penalty flick wide. This was the last opportunity Blackpool created and Kirkby Londsdale sealed the victory with a fourth goal in the last few minutes. A disappointing result from a Blackpool side who failed to make the visiting keeper make a single save during the second half.
