Despite a much improved performance from the previous 2 weeks, Blackpool’s third team were defeated 3-0 away to Lancaster & Morecambe third team.
The first 15 minutes saw chances at both ends with Blackpool controlling the majority of territory, creating several short corners but unable to seriously threaten the Lancaster & Morecambe goal. At the other end Lancaster & Morecambe also looked dangerous and only a couple of smart saves from Toby Jeffrey kept the score level. At the half way point of the first half, Lancaster & Morecambe opened the scoring, a first time shot being fired into the top corner of the Blackpool goal leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Lancaster & Morecambe doubled their lead on 25 minutes, their striker being played clean through on goal and clinically placing the ball past Blackpool’s goalkeeper into the corner of the goal. 2-0 to Lancaster & Morecambe at half time but having shown much more purpose going forwards and more desire to work as a team.
The early part of the second half saw Lancaster and Morecambe with most of the attacking play and eventually the pressure told with a third goal from another powerful strike into the top of the goal. However from there the game was all Blackpool. Wave after wave of attacks led to at least 8 short corners, a number of saves from the Lancaster & Morecambe keeper, a Keiffer Walker-Earnshaw short corner strike being cleared off the line and a number of other shots being put wide. However, despite their best efforts Blackpool were unable to break down a strong and resolute Lancaster & Morecambe defence.
The final score was 3-0 to Lancaster & Morecambe but Blackpool can consider themselves unfortunate to lose by such a margin and definitely unlucky not to get on the score sheet.
Blackpool’s Man of the Match was Will Turnbull but there were also good performances from Kieran Ablett, Corey Stott, Joe Neath and Kieffer Walker-Earnshaw
