Blackpool 3’s traveled to Kirkby Lonsdale and battled hard for a tight 2-1 win against the home club’s 2nd team.
After a fortnight’s league break, Blackpool were definitely the rustier of the two teams and conceded an early goal from a short corner.
It took a solo effort for captain Matt Atherton (man of the match) to attack and dribble the ball into the D, take a shot on goal, which was deflected by a defender’s stick wrong footing the goalkeeper to level the scores.
Both sides had attacks but a lack of finishing meant halftime came with the teams in deadlock.
In the second half, a Matt Atherton pass from midfield found Oli McVicor at the edge of the D, who passed the ball across the goal, away from the goalkeeper, and Kieran Armstrong had a tap-in to give Blackpool a 2-1 lead.
The game became increasingly physical with neither side wanting to concede possession or give the other any advantage. Oli McVicor was unlucky to be hit on the head with the follow through from a stick and had to leave the pitch to be patched up. (Happy to say he is ok. Ed.)
The match ended in an open scrappy affair, but Blackpool held on for an away win which they knew they’d had to earn, and are now up to 4th in Division 6NN.
