Blackpool’s 2nd team continued to struggle with a 10-2 defeat at home to Liverpool John Moores University’s 1st team.
Blackpool lined up with several new faces making their first appearance of the season in the 2nd team and this perhaps resulted in a lack of cohesion early on as LJMU quickly opened up a 2-0 lead. Not for the first time this season, the concession of a couple of early goals seemed to galvanise Blackpool, who started to find their passing game and deservedly pulled a goal back when Dave Morgan fired high into the goal after some good work down the left from Tim Wilson. Unfortunately this optimism soon dissipated as LJMU ran in 4 more goals in a 10 minute period late in the first half as Blackpool lost their organisation and started arguing amongst themselves. 6-1 at half time.
After some strong words were exchanged during the half time team talk, Blackpool came out in the second half determined to put up more of a fight and the second half was a much more even affair, at least in terms of possession and territory. LJMU did manage to add a couple more goals to their tally before Ben Mortimer was fouled when looking to score and a penalty flick was awarded to Blackpool. Andy Mortimer stepped up and fired the flick into the top corner to pull a goal back for Blackpool. LJMU then added a couple more late goals as Blackpool tired making the final score 10-2.
Another day to forget for Blackpool but with many of the top sides out of the way there is hope that the coming weeks will bring some more competitive games against the teams around them in the league.
