Blackpool’s 2nd team travelled to Manchester with a full squad but were completely outclassed by Didsbury Northern 4th team who beat them with a fluid passing hockey game 11-0.
The Blackpool team was virtually unrecognisable to last year’s 2nd team captain Niall Bancroft who was playing for his new club, given the number of 3rd team players who have stepped up.
Blackpool didn’t play badly, and competed for the ball all over the park, however Didsbury were clinical in taking their chances, with any mistake punished.
The day went from bad to worse after Blackpool had driven back to Didsbury’s impressive clubhouse, showered, and sat down for half an hour waiting for the customary hospitality but were then told that they’d have to wait a further half an hour. This was too long to wait, and the hungry Blackpool players departed dreaming of the bangers & mash that the 1st team had told them about from the week before.
It’s a day to put behind Blackpool, but a sign of the tough season ahead, and another difficult game against Bolton 1st next week.
