A glorious afternoon saw a full squad of players turn up for the penultimate game of the season. The captain had decided to play the centre back and sweeper up front and the two forwards in defence. This worked a treat in the first half as Gettings and Latimer ran riot. Skill, movement and sublime touches were all in evidence as Blackpool stamped their authority on the game. The squad of Blakemore, Boniface J & J, Lester, Gettings, Woodman, Latimer, Abbott, Morrow, Pasqualino, Wright, Whitley, Morgan and Mortimer did a good job and used the ball well. If anything Morgan and Mortimer were allowed a little extra pace and room than they are used to and found defensive duties rather easy. Going into the half one (Rob Abbott from close range after a superb build up down the right) to the good and knowing the tried and tested routine would start in the second half the team talk was very jovial.
The second half was quite simply awful! Blackpool forgot haw to pass, and let Blackburn right back into the game. Dave Morgan scored with about 5 minutes to go and that looked to close the game but Blackburn again rallied and Blackpool teetered on the brink of a draw, but Mitch Blakemore saved the day between the posts with three quality saves.
The captain goes into his final match wearing the most sought after armband in any division knowing it will be Blackpool’s toughest game of the season against Didsbury.
