Blackpool 2nd XI came out to this game full of confidence but allowed Edge Hill the early advantage where they were awarded a penalty stroke when the ball was stopped from crossing the line by a foot of one of the Blackpool defenders, Edge Hill converted the penalty stroke and Blackpool found themselves behind within the first five minutes. But this was not going to deter the home side as a few minutes later Mike Sharp took advantage of a failed clearance by smashing the ball past the on rushing keeper into the bottom left hand corner. Edge Hill responded to this by scoring three well worked goals to be 4-1 up by half time.
This seemed game, set and match but Blackpool were not going to lie down easily as they found themselves playing some excellent hockey with good passing moves from Mike Ashfield and Sam Goudie. The pressure began to tell on a tired Edge Hill side as the Edge Hill left half was sin binned for dissent to the umpire after a decision had been reversed. Edge Hill made a good counter attack which paid of as they scored their fifth from a well worked short corner routine. Mid second half Blackpool were awarded a penalty stroke as Mike Sharp was fouled in the area from an unruly challenge, Warren Edmondson duly converted the penalty and minutes later Sam Goudie deflected a cross into the bottom corner to bring Blackpool’s deficit to two. Blackpool were unlucky to not force the draw but some great hockey from some young, up & coming players, captain Warren Edmondson gained man of the match.
