Blackpool started off with the worst possible start as they went behind to a goal in the first ten minutes from a penalty corner. Shortly after the home side pulled on back as some good passing play from Steven Whitley & Dave Morgan led to Rob Abbott striking the ball high into the net from a tight angle to level the scores. For a brief moment within the first half, Blackpool were back in the game, but Blackpool were to be soon punished for sloppy passing as West Cumbria won another short corner and converted the ball in the goal from a well worked routine & soon after they grabbed a third from a midfield mix up.
Blackpool came out to the second half and took more control of the game but by this point West Cumbria had their defence dug in and were not allowing Blackpool to pile through despite some good crosses from Danny Woodman, Richard Blacow & Andy Mortimer and shots from Andy Gerrard, Blackpool failed to convert their chances. The match finished in the visitors favour as Blackpool finished with a poor start to the season.
