With several absentees due to injury, exams and family events, the home team lacked their usual strength in numbers and had to rely on the same 11 players all match. However this is no excuse as the line-up of Blakemore, Woodman, Pasqualino, Wright, Ashfield, Morrow K., Abbott, Whitley, Morgan, Mortimer and Blacow are all 1st team quality.
Blackpool couldn’t get started in the 1st half with midfield problems and struggled to make chances. Lancaster scored from a move down the right with a cross to an unmarked player who tapped the ball in leaving the keeper with no chance. The home team showed a lot of guts to stay in the game and gradually took more control of the ball.
With the Lancaster keeper saving them on several occasions, Captain Morgan decided to swap Abbott and Pasqualino back to the infamous promotion-winning 2003 formation. This inspired move paid dividends as with 10 minutes to go Woodman passed to Pasqualino to score his first goal of the season.
1-1 was the final result but against one of the weaker teams in the division this should have been a home banker. Wright was awarded the Man of the Match.
