Blackpool travelled to bottom side South Cheshire for a relegation six-pointer. They were all over the place in the first twenty minutes and couldn’t get a grip on how South Cheshire were playing and were soon 2-0 down.
Blackpool only then started playing, with the defence stiffling the opposition attack with some great tackling from Chris Crossland and Jack Boniface. A quick passing attack through the South Cheshire defence by Kieron Morrow and Dave Morgan resulted in Morgan sliding the ball into an open net. This was quickly followed by a long corner, the ball coming to Richard Blacow who crossed the ball for Steve Whitley to slot home his 1st league goal of the season ending his nine game drought!
2-2 at half time and Blackpool had dragged themselves back into the game. However, Blackpool were soon behind again when slack defending and ball watching led to the opposition being another two goals to the good. Richard Blacow pulled a goal back, calmly flicking the ball into the bottom right corner from a short corner. This seemed to motivate South Cheshire more than the Blackpool side and they started to play some really attractive hockey. Blackpool just couldn’t cope and let in another three easy goals to end the match losing 7-3.
This is truly the lowest point of Blackpool Mens 1st team’s season and they need to find the appetite for a fight in what must be the most open Division 3 in many a season. A couple of good wins could see the side leap from 11th to mid-table and a safer position.
