Blackpool were lucky to play their relegation six-pointer at Sale as the pitch was partially frozen, but both sides were keen to play despite the sub-zero temperatures.
Blackpool wondered whether they had made the wrong decision after falling behind to a Sale short corner and finding defending difficult with the ball bouncing around on the hard surface.
Gradually Blackpool became used to the conditions and starting attacking with several shots saved by the Sale keeper. An equalizer came after an initial David Wright shot was saved with Dave Morgan poaching the rebound.
Blackpool continued playing strongly in the second half and thought they were taking the lead after being awarded a penalty stroke. Kieron Morrow took the honours but a poor flick was easily saved by the keeper to leave the score at 1-1.
Sale had attacks of their own, but when one of these broke down, some fast counter-attacking from Blackpool with a killer pass from captain Rob Abbott lead to a fine striker’s goal from David Wright.
A third goal was scored by Dave Morgan at a short corner and this ended Sale’s hopes and Blackpool had their first win for three months and hope that they can pull away from the relegation zone.
