Blackpool dominated in the first half of a game they had to win against fellow relegation strugglers Oxton. Twin strikers Dave Morgan and David Wright were combining well. Morgan just missed a certain goal when a cross from Wright eluded his dive at the post, however the lead was taken shortly afterwards after a vital stretch from Morgan passed the defender for Wright to take his time and make certain his hit into the goal. Blackpool’s defence looked strong and didn’t let a single strike on goal.
The second half saw it all fall apart for Blackpool. Oxton pressed for an equalizer and Blackpool began to lose shape in midfield and defence. Oxton finally won a couple of short corners and scored from one after a clever routine, they then took the lead from a opportunistic strike from the edge of the D, and made it 3-1 after a poor clearance from goalkeeper Kilshaw led to an easy shot into goal.
Blackpool tried to retaliate and had shots cleared from the line but ultimately lost out in fitness and team discipline. Relegation from Division 4 now looks likely although a win next week at Lytham could start a remarkable comeback.
