Blackpool still unbeaten in 2010 travelled to leigh on a miserable saturday morning only needing a point to secure a deserved promotion, unfortnately Blackpool were missing a couple players aswell and due to traffic a warm up could not take place, but this game was end to end some great counter attack hockey was played by both sides throughout the match and this was the case in Blackpool’s first goal, Ben Mortimer and Martin Hayes working well to create an opportunity for Chris Hocking who put the ball firmly into the bottom corner of the net, a succession of Leigh penalty corners followed putting Blackpool under alot of preesure but Blackpool managed to break and some good build up play from Mitch Blakemore and Ben Mortimer gave Mitch Blakemore an easy chance to put Blackpool 2-0 up. Some agile keeping and some brutal defending followed from Blackpool but finally Leigh made the pressure count and got a goal back, Half Time. Some good possesion hockey from Blackpool to start the second half was good, and a fractic final ten minutes saw the game get 5 more goals, firstly Mitch Blakemore scoring a brillant individual effort gettin his second of the game to make it 3-1, quickly after leigh converted a penalty corner to make it 3-2 then shortly after some good work from Mitch Blakemore and Rob Pascqulino resulted in Blakemore setting up Nathan Woodman to rifle one into the bottom corner to make it 4-2, Leigh converted two more penalty corners in the final 5 minutes to make Blackpool sweat but the final whistle went and promotion was earned a great hard battling result to get the job done. Man of the match being awarded to Nathan Woodman who played extremly well down the left hand side his young age not proving a factor in this tough physical game and a well taken goal, Bring on div 8!!!
