Blackpool U14s hockey team faced Blackburn Northern away this week. Despite depleted numbers Blackpool immediately showed attacking intent taking control of the game with a goal from Will Pickles within the first few minutes, Blackpool continued to enjoy most of the possession Joe Neath placing a second after an individual run cutting through the Blackburn defence, and followed this up with a third, from a cross from Keiffer Walker-Earnshaw. The dying minutes of the first 20 minute stint saw Will Pickles scoring a fourth goal from a corner quickly followed by Keiffer W-E finding the back of the net from a cross by Matt Atkinson taking the score to a creditable 5-0.
After the restart Blackburn came out with renewed purpose with Max Knapman having to make a number of very brave saves. Matt A. added a sixth goal against the run of play, but Blackburn broke on the counter, and finally found a way past the valiant Max. The final 20 min phase saw the Blackpool squad feeling the effects of the full size pitch and were by now on very tired legs, they had however realised that the best way to keep the opposition out of the game was to let the ball do the work with some great passing play. Goals 7 and 8 came from Joe Neath, who by now was combining well with Will P to control the mid-field. A 9th Blackpool goal came with Matt Atkinson finding the net beautifully from a cross coming from an unselfish pass from Keiffer. A small lapse of defence in the dying minutes allowed Blackburn to grab a final consolation goal, the Umpire brought the game to an end; Blackpool 9 Blackburn Northern 2.
