Blackpool thirds travelled away to Kirkby Lonsdale this week in a bid to claim some points. The younger of the two sides started well and apply good pressure from the off. Middle men James Smith, Will Pickles and Kieran Armstrong controlled the pace of the game and kept the majority of possession to the away side.
Blackpools defence looked impressive throughout the whole match and saw the first half out with a clean sheet. Goalkeeper Craig Nutter looking sharp and positive with some great saves.
As the second half began Blackpool remained strong but soon started to tire and Kirkby had their own share of applying the pressure. Blackpools Connah Griffin and Phil Weir were not allowing the home side to take advantage just yet and continued again and again to clear up at the back.
On the break Blackpool gained their first short corner of the match and this felt like the only chance for a goal so far. The shot was scuffed at the top of the area and Kirkby Lonsdale broke for the Blackpool net. Now outnumbered at the back, and only minutes to go, Kirkby threw everything they had at the struggling Blackpool defence.
After winning a penalty corner, Kirkby huddled round for a carefully thought out plan. The injection to the top of the area was quick enough for Kirkby to shift the ball left of the post and tap the shot home.
Final whistle and Blackpool loosing 1-0 doesn’t quite seem a fair result for the very impressive performance displayed by Smiths youngsters
