Blackpool 2’s were rusty after their five week Christmas break but managed to battle hard to win 4-2 against Lytham St Annes 4’s.
They started the better and opened the scoring with a nice move leading to Jordan Payne striking home, then doubled the lead with Josh Boyne scoring from a short corner.
Blackpool relaxed a little too early and whilst not under too much pressure they conceded a short corner which Lytham converted. The half finished at 2-1 but Lytham were stronger out of the break and soon equalised which started to make Blackpool nervous, with memories of the game at Stanley Park which they lost despite being dominant.
The skills of Josh Boyne in midfield and Ollie Tomlinson on the wing led to the joint man of the match awards, and contributed to many short corners which Blackpool were awarded. They were mainly scrappy affairs but from one of them Paul Atherton managed to score when lurking at the near post, and then right at the end of the game a short corner move broke down but Martin Hayes battled to get a shot on goal to end the game 4-2.
Blackpool remain 3rd in Division 5 and stay on the promotion hunt behind Kirkby Lonsdale and Formby.
