Blackpool 2’s started the day in 4th, beat 3rd placed Blackburn Northern 3-0 in a great team performance and ended the day in 2nd place of Division 5NN due to other results.
With midfield dynamo Niall Bancroft missing, young Harrison Stott was moved from the wing into the centre of midfield, partnering Rob Pasqualino, and played a blinder of a game winning the man of the match award.
Blackpool played well throughout with passing inter-linking hockey, using the pace of Ollie Tomlinson, James Smith and David Wright on the wings, up to the rotating forwards of Mike Sharp, Chris Hocking and Steve White. The pressure was huge on Blackburn but for the first half their defence stood firm.
Blackpool’s defence of Morrison, Mortimer, Latimer and Atherton provided a solid platform themselves, and secured their first clean sheet of the season together with goalkeeper and captain Graeme Kilshaw.
Blackpool finally made inroads when their first goal came from a scrappy short corner and a shot from Harrison Stott which looked to be going slightly wide when it hit a defender’s foot and unluckily deflected into the goal.
The second goal came after some lovely one-two passes down the right side of the field, finally ending with a pass to Mike Sharp in the area who put his shot away with power and precision. It was Sharp who scored the third, from another scrappy short corner, and he pounced on the ricocheting ball to help it on its way into the goal.
A great performance all round and morale is now restored with the focus on winning the remaining three games against the top teams to try and claim promotion.
