After last Sunday’s shock defeat against the bottom side Southport, Blackpool 2’s managed to conspire to lose at home again 2-1 to the new bottom side South Lakes 2’s, and end their slim promotion hopes.
Blackpool started the stronger team although found that South Lakes had brought a strong defence and the early attacks led to nothing. It was a shock when South Lakes took the lead after a mistaken back pass.
After Blackpool were unable to breach the opposition defence they switched formation and with Niall Bancroft and Nathan Woodman working tirelessly down the inner channels, eventually they found the equaliser when Woodman unleashed a thunderbolt strike flying into the net.
Martin Hayes was given a sin-bin for a second technical offence, but was then disastrously sent off permanently for some backchat on the sideline, meaning Blackpool had to play out the game with only 10 men.
A South Lakes counter attack managed to cross the ball into the D and the lone striker was left alone with the ball after the initial save was parried towards him. Blackpool couldn’t believe they’d gone behind, since they hadn’t even conceded a single short corner, and there wasn’t enough to score an equaliser nevermind a winner.
